Modern day perfumery can trace its origins from humble beginnings; a simple burning of resin incense, the strewing of herbs, a splash of floral water or the scent of a pomander ball. Plants have been used in many forms since antiquity to fragrance the air, combat malodours, to anoint, cleanse, beautify and to stir the senses.
Come and discover the origins of perfumery and the remarkable role of aromatic plants in the immersive one-day workshop. Enjoy a hands-on, interactive day embracing the theory and creative art of botanical perfumery where you will:
- learn about the origins and history of perfume from Cleopatra to Chanel
- Understand perfume vocabulary, training the nose and the art of smelling
- Perfume structure - Top, Middle, Base notes
- Fragrance classification
- Secrets of blending, dilutions
- Safety and storage
Inspired by the surrounding beauty of Dilston Physic Gardens and using a palette of pure grade essential oils and absolutes, you will learn about key ingredients in perfume creation and how to combine them. With time for sampling and discussion you will be guided on basic perfumery composition and blending to create your own alcohol-based natural perfume spray.
Fee includes all materials, notes, equipment and your finished 25ml perfume spray. Refreshments provided, but please bring your own lunch.
