This year’s Summer Festival at Kew Gardens is all about the Secret World of Plants, exploring the weird and wonderful world of plant biodiversity, with a particular focus on some of Britain’s most biodiverse and threatened landscapes, such as moorland, woodland, sand dunes and meadows.
Each Friday and Saturday over 8 weeks from 25th June until 24th July, there will be After Hours events, when the Gardens will be open to the public from 7.00pm until 10pm with a range of activities to engage and delight!
I shall be there presenting my Scented Landscapes. I have created a mini representation of each landscape housed in a jar and fragranced each one so when you uncap the lid, one sniff will transport you (subjectively and metaphorically) to the dunes, the moors, a woodland or a meadow.
Linking in with the focus on native plants, I will also have for sampling a healing balm that I have made with daisy herbal oil, it is the British equivalent of arnica; I’ve blended it with organic butters and essential oils to offer a sensory, therapeutic experience.
Finally, there will be a little ‘take-away’ for each visitor, a free packet of British wildflower seeds to scatter where you may, thus encouraging a bit of wildness to attract pollinating insects.
